GPT-6 Astra, ‘Summerween’, and what they means for Ecommerce

Nobody wins search traffic by accident. Each week on Win Search Now, AEO and SEO expert Daniele Assistenti breaks down the search headlines that retailers can't afford to miss. This week, OpenAI has launched its most capable browsing model yet – plus, how online retailers are getting ready for Halloween earlier than ever.

OpenAI launches GPT-6 Astra

Shopping for products with AI Search is about to get a lot more powerful.

OpenAI has been rolling out its new model, GPT-6 Astra, since 3rd September. The company calls it "the world's most intelligent and aligned" LLM, and says Astra is 47% faster than its previous model at computer-based tasks like agentic shopping and checkout.

In practice, Astra raises the bar for how reliably LLMs and agentic checkout assistants can compare and buy products on their own.

If you're already enriching and generating product content built to rank on AI Search, this update could bring you even more organic growth from ChatGPT.

To see the change for yourself, you need two things: a clear picture of where your catalogue stands on AI Search today, and a way to measure what changes.

You could do it by hand. That means prompting engine by engine and SKU by SKU, logging where you show up and where you don't, then doing it all again next month.

Or you can use a tracking tool. Ocula's performance agent does this for you. It ranks your strongest and weakest PDPs on AI Search, so you know where to act first.

If you've been on the fence about getting your catalogue ready for AI Search, take this as your prompt to start now.

The Halloween trends retailers shouldn’t ignore

Halloween is just around the corner, and every year ecommerce teams have to plan for it a little earlier.

This year, Michaels, North America's largest arts and crafts retailer, reported that searches for "Summerween" jumped 530% over the summer. Searches for Halloween crochet kits rose 583% in the same period.

Costume interest is also spread across more pop-culture moments than usual, including blockbuster hits like The Odyssey and Obsession, new superhero releases, and KPop Demon Hunters, which is still leading the kids’ category.

As AI Search grows, costume and decor searches will keep moving away from generic terms. Shoppers can now ask for products that fit their exact interests, down to specific characters, films and franchises.

Unlike shorter, keyword driven searches on Google, on AI Search, shoppers write longer, more specific briefs, like: "a black witch's hat that isn't too tall and works for the office social".

AI Search can only recommend your product for requests like that if your product content mentions those use-cases.

The answer isn't more keywords. Make sure each PDP says, in plain terms:

  1. What the product is

  2. Who it suits

  3. An occasion it's perfect for

That's how your products get recommended when shoppers stop searching for a "black witch hat" and start asking for more specific, unique costume ideas tailored to them.
